On the occasion of the celebration of the 490th anniversary of the Reformation of October Taxi Heathrow Airport 31, 1517, and the 527th anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther, the Lutheran Community of Colombia and its St. John the Apostle and Evangelist church in Bogotá, together with the German Lutheran Church, will hold a workshop course on “Luther: Thought, Work and Legacy,” from November 6 – 9.

The Reverend Hollman Lara Mayorga, President of the Executive Committee of the Lutheran Community of Colombia, said that during the workshop the initial focus will be on the life, thought and work of Luther, for which a document recreating the life of who is considered to be the father of the Protestant Reformation has been prepared.

Lara informed that following that initial focus, the difference between Luther and Lutheranism will be explored in a lecture on what preceded the Reformation and those whom he calls “pre-reformers.” In the discussion to follow attention will be drawn to the viewpoints of the different confessions of faith with regard to Luther, specifically those from the perspective of the Reformed, Anabaptist and Roman Catholic Churches.

Lara further added that during the workshop discussion will also center on the different contexts and declarations of faith, with emphasis given to the anthropology of Lutheranism, and that the gathering will end with an analysis of Lutheranism today and its vision of a spiritual church, a social church and a missionary church, based on the doctrine of the reformer.

The workshop course will be held in the St. Matthew Congregation of the German Lutheran Church in the north of the capital city, and it is hoped that it will be attended not only by members of the Lutheran community but also by the wider Christian community.
