Church economist urges moral reform of global system

ALC/ENI, CAPE TOWN, Sudáfrica, October 4, 2007

A World Council of Churches economist has criticized the global economic system for creating "material Taxi Heathrow Airport and spiritual poverty" and called for a people-centered economy in which morality replaces mathematics in tackling problems caused by global capital.

Rogate Mshana, the WCC program executive for Economic Justice, Poverty and Ecology, said the present global economy has disrupted traditional patterns of human behavior and had created "spiritual and material poverty by devastating precious indigenous customs and ecosystems".
