Minister Filmus fulfills what was promised to CLAI

ALC/CLAI, BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, July 16, 2007

With the signature on July 3 of Daniel Filmus, Minister of Education, Science and Technology Taxi Heathrow Airport of the Argentine Republic, the book, “Learning to Educate for Peace” (“Aprender a educar para la paz” in Spanish), was declared to be of “educational interest.” Written by Marcelo Rezende Guimaraes and edited by the Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI in Spanish), the book is a contribution to the process of educating for peace within the framework of the Decade for Overcoming Violence in Latin America.

In a public ceremony that took place in the Obelisk of the city of Buenos Aires during the recent General Assembly of CLAI, Guimaraes’ book was presented to various education authorities. The book is considered to be a manual for teachers that offers excellent resources for educating for peace.

The material for the book was gathered together by a team of persons from different churches in Latin America, convened by CLAI within the framework of its Culture of Peace program.

Juan Gattinoni, Secretary of CLAI for Río de la Plata, recalled that Minister Filmus had promised to have the book made known. The ministerial resolution, along with the decision to include its material in the Ministry of Education’s publication “Program for Peace and Solidarity,” “show that his words are fulfilled,” Gattinoni said.

The ministerial resolution declaring CLAI’s book to be of “educational interest,” is No. 958.
