Reformed churches decide about matters vital to their composition and functioning
ALC/CLAI, BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, May 15, 2007
With the theme of the passage from the prophet Isaiah, “But those who trust in Taxi Heathrow Airport the Lord will always have new strength,” the Reformed Churches of Argentina (IRA in Spanish) have convened their 37th Synod to be held in the costal city of Mar del Plata, from May 25 – 27.
Pastor Roberto Jordan, the denomination’s president, expressed that they are convinced that in these times Isaiah’s promise is of great relevance. “This is going to be a challenging time for our churches, because proposals that are of the utmost importance for the journeying of our churches in the approaching days, are going to be considered,” he said.
In the same way that the Ecclesiastical Council is the highest authority in the scheme of reformed organization at the congregational level, the Synod is the highest place of government of the Reformed Churches at the national level. It meets every two years and is attended by delegates from different congregations throughout the whole country, who together decide about matters common to all and elect the Synod’s officers.
The meditations during the morning devotionals will be led by Dan González, General Secretary for Latin America of the Universal Federation of Christian Student Movements.
Among the matters that the Synod is to consider, are: the strategic planning process carried out by the board of directors of the IRA, the process of integration with the Evangelical Church of Río de la Plata, the continuity of the projects underway and the denomination’s self-support.
The IRA has 14 communities in the federal capital and province of Buenos Aires, and 2 in the southern province of Chubut.
