Episcopal Church of Central Ecuador recognizes Presiding Bishop
Chris Morck, QUITO, Ecuador, February 27, 2007
The Episcopal Church Diocese of Central Ecuador, meeting in Quito on February 16 and 17 Taxi Heathrow Airport in its 32nd annual convention, heard Bishop Wilfrido Ramos-Orench speak about "God inviting us to work not in isolation but in collaboration and harmony one with another."
He told the Convention: "It was not on a whim that Jesus sent his disciples out two-by-two. God does not want 'lone rangers.' God invites us to be collaborators in discipleship and ministry at all ecclesial levels."
The Convention passed two resolutions affirming this sense of diocesan collaboration and companionship within the Episcopal Church. The first was a resolution re-instituting a companion relationship with the Diocese of Atlanta and expressing gratitude for the reciprocity and relationship shown by Atlanta's presence at the Convention in Quito. Last November, the Diocese of Central Ecuador had been present at Atlanta's Convention as both dioceses sought to reestablish ways of walking together.
The 32nd Convention passed a second resolution which expressed support for what was described as Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori's "prophetic ministry" during the present time in the Episcopal Church and within the Anglican Communion. The resolution, which passed unanimously, recognizes "the authority of the Presiding Bishop as the Primate of the Episcopal Church of which we are a part." It affirms the diocese's "complete support and encouragement" for Jefferts Schori's witness and work "during this crucial point in the life of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion."
The Episcopal Church Diocese of Central Ecuador comprises about 1,800 Episcopalians worshipping in 29 congregations.
Christopher Morck is an advisor to Bishop Wilfrido Ramos-Orench.
