Dr. Arturo Piedra Solano has died

SAN JOSÉ, , February 22, 2007

After a two year struggle with cancer, Dr. Arturo Piedra Solano died on Tuesday, February Taxi Heathrow Airport 20.

Arturo Piedra, President of the Association of Costa Rican Biblical Churches (AIBC in Spanish), studied at the Latin American Biblical Seminary, where he obtained his Degree in Theology. He was a founding member of the Fraternity of Costa Rican Evangelical Churches (FIEC in Spanish), which split from the AIBC. The FIEC later became the Presbyterian Church of Costa Rica.

Professor Piedra joined the faculty of the same seminary from which he had graduated and later had the opportunity to pursue post-graduate studies in Scotland from where he returned to Costa Rica with a doctorate.

Arturo Piedra characterized himself for being a keen investigator, as shown by the articles and books that he wrote or published. A particular concern of his investigations was Latin American Protestantism, because of history being an area in which he specialized. His academic activities did not overshadow his evangelistic and pastoral vocation, and he always kept himself active in that ministry.

On Tuesday, February 20 in the Gethsemani Biblical Church that he was pastor of until his death, a service of thanksgiving to God was held for the life and ministry of Dr. Arturo Piedra Solano.
