Romanian law on religions called most restrictive in Europe
ALC/ENI, January 31, 2007
New EU member Romania has the most restrictive law on religion in Europe, says a Taxi Heathrow Airport religious freedom watchdog group, noting that legislation was pushed through only days before the former communist country joined the European Union.
"The promulgation of this law is a blatant attack on religious freedom and fundamental rights and demonstrates little if any move away from the previous communist regimes, " stated the president of the Washington DC-based Institute on Religion and Public Policy, Joseph K.Grieboski.
