Vatican welcomes move to check past of Polish bishops
ROME, January 15, 2007
The Vatican has welcomed plans by Roman Catholic bishops in Poland to allow themselves to be investigated for past ties with the country's communist-era secret police, following the resignation of an archbishop who had admitted such links. "I'm happy about the decision of the Polish bishops to make a screening about the past, and to give all communications [about this] to Holy Father," said the Vatican's secretary of state, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. "A lack of communications is dangerous in all fields, and prevents taking well-considered decisions."
